Goodies from Magfest

Goodies from Magfest
25 янв 2012 05:01:33

Once again, I apologize for not doing this sooner. A lot of this can be contributed to my mind being focused on other things (i.e. an Android tablet that I got for Xmas, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) and the fact that I was under the weather after the con.

At the start of the 2012 (i.e. the first full weekend of it), I attended Magfest X in National Harbor. Given how the focus of Magfest is more video game-related, my expectations are somewhat lower when it comes to cosplay (AKA I don't expect much) and the Dealers' Room (as I usually don't spend as much there when compared to a bigger anime con). However, Magfest does have a benefit of bringing out "artist alley" vendors whose wares would interest me. This year, I picked up a couple of goodies at the Magfest Marketplace that fit well with the stuff that's usually mentioned here.

The first item is from Studio Kitsu. For some time now, I've been seeing Metroid plushies being sold at various convention Artist Alleys. With that, I eventually decided to buy one here at Magfest (more specifically one of the larger ones created by this artist). While the Metroids did come in different colors, I went with the regular green design here.

My second item came from Fizzman Industries. You've probably know about the group from my blog post about the Buzzy Beetle that I picked up at last year's Magfest. With Magfest being earlier this year (and me budgeting more money for the con this year after what I bought last year), I made sure I had enough money this year to buy one of the bigger statues that Fizzman Industries made. This time around, after leaving the con last year before the drawing of the Metal Man statue, I made up for that by picking up another Mega Man 2 that Fizzman Industries made. This time, the character in question is Flash Man.

Like last year, Fizzman Industries had another raffle, this time being a Mega Man chess set. This year, the drawing was earlier on Saturday night (i.e. 7:00 PM), so I was able to attend that drawing. I didn't win anything this time, although I do know that the person who won the chess set somewhat resembled Dr. Wright/Light (Mega Man's creator in the video games).

As for other items, it wasn't much, with it consisting of a a guide book to the 2011 Tokyo Game Show, a couple of t-shirts (this year's con shirt and a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic shirt), and a mini arcade cabinet for my Android tablet.

With Magfest done, the next con on my schedule is Katsucon, which will be taking place next month at the same place as Magfest this year. As usual, I'm already saving up (while making sure that I have some money for an upcoming figure shipment and a few video games).
