I'm doing things different when it comes to this blog post. Usually, when I do these types of blog posts, they are usually about PVC figures that I picked up from either online, a convention, or a store. This one is a different story.
This past weekend, I attended , which is a convention in the DC area that focuses on the wonderful world of gaming. One of the features that this convention has is the Marketplace. A combination of both the Artist Alley and Dealers’ Room at most conventions that I go to, the Marketplace is an area located in the hotel’s hallway near the arcade section. As a result, dealers can sell their merchandise during later hours, and it eliminates the usual long line of people waiting for the Dealers' Room to open.
Usually, when it comes to Artist Alley items, I usually don’t buy items from there. However, along with picking up a button depicting a cute image of Cammy from the Street Fighter games, one “Artist” dealer had something that was worth checking out. The name of the vendor is , which specializes in unique sculptures of various video games characters off all shapes and sizes. There's smaller sculptures ranging from the Bob-ombs from the Super Mario games to the various cousins from the Katamari games. However, there's also some big sculptures as well, including one of Kraid from Metroid and a scene from the old arcade game Dig-Dug.
Seeing these statues, I knew I had to buy one of them while I'm at Magfest. However, at the same time, I knew that despite being an old school gamer, I couldn't purchase the Dig-Dug sculpture on the account that I have another convention to attend next month. Hence, after looking at the cheaper statues (and noticing that the statues were selling out very quickly), I ended up buying one of Buzzy Beetle from the Super Mario video games.
Along with the sculptures on sale, Fizz Man Industries was also raffling off a sculpture of Metal Man from Mega Man 2. I was very interested in taking part in the raffle, with me buying $10 worth of tickets for it. However, in the end, I decided to forfeit my chance of winning it on the account of deciding that I wasn't going to stay until midnight Saturday to see if I won (this decision was pretty much a combination of the lack of non-concert/gaming activities between 8PM-1AM, the Steelers beating the Ravens in an NFL playoffs game, and me possibly starting to come down with a cold that's been bothering me the past few days).
Being impressed by the statues that the dealer had to offer at Magfest this year, it would be cool to see Fizz Man Industries show up again at next year's Magfest, as I'd definitely buy another video game statue from them.
