Although a main protagonist in the manga, Tate follows the role of a side character of the story in Mai-HiME the anime. In the anime, he makes his first appearance on the ferry of which Mai Tokiha boards to reach her new school. The fellow is part of the Fuuka Academy Student Council. Tate possesses no particular powers but, supposedly, holds feelings for Mai. But, even with such feelings, Tate confronts a rival for his love to Mai and a persistant "rival" for his love. With such complications, he meets his fate in a rather tragic occasion...
