Katsucon 18: The Cosplay

Katsucon 18: The Cosplay
25 фев 2012 05:03:22

This year, Katsucon had a lot of variety when it came to cosplay, and it was more than just anime and video games. The following are some of the cosplay that I saw the con.

Ordinary cosplay: Dressing up as a character from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Unique cosplay: Doing a "Rule 63" version of of the Puella Magi, in this case, Kyouko.

Anyone who had an Atari 2600 would definitely remember the game Adventure. From said game, here's the player (aka the dot) with his sword (the arrow) and Yorgle, the yellow dragon that looks like a duck.

I pity the fool who doesn't take a picture of this cosplayer. One of the biggest badasses of the 1980's, Mr. T.

P. S. Insert crossword puzzle or Joel Schumacher joke here (it makes sense if you know some of the works of Mr. T).

There's a lot of people cosplaying as characters from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic at the convention. Starting things off in the list of Pony cosplay I caught on film is Spitfire of the Wonderbolts, a Blue Angels-like group of Pegasus ponies admired by Rainbow Dash.

Ayane from the Dead or Alive series in the sexy black leotard attire from DOA 2.

While I'm on the subject of female fighting game characters in sexy leotards, here's Cammy from the Street Fighter series.

Continuing with the various My Little Pony cosplayers at Katsucon, here's Granny Smith, the elderly grandmother of Applejack and her siblings. Given some of her antics in the show, she can be a hoot at times

The Best of Granny Smith

Edward and Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. Given a certain running gag concerning Edward, it's safe to that his cosplay is very accurate when it comes to character size.

(runs away before he gets attacked by the real Edward)

Aruruu, the adoreable younger "dog girl" from Utawarerumono.

It so happens that there she was coming from a Utawarerumono group photo shoot that was going on outside. While I was too late for the outside photo shoot...

I was able to find some of the other Utawarerumono cosplayers involved in the photo shoot a few minutes later as I walked around the convention hall.

Kyurem, one third of the "Tao trio" of rare Pokemon that show up in the "Generation V" Pokemon video games (aka Pokemon Black and White).

In the lesser known anime department, here's Noda (in her magical witch outfit) from GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class, one of many anime titles involving a group of groups attending an art school.

If you're familiar with the award-winning sitcom Arrested Development would enjoy this pair of cosplayers dressed as employees at Bluth's Original Frozen Banana.

Everyone's favorite pair of comical thieves, Isaac and Miria from Baccano! (depicted her in their holiday themed disguises from the show's OP sequence).

Saturday afternoon, there was a major My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic photo shoot. While it didn't take any official "photo shoot" pictures (it was too crowded for me to take a shot of those cosplayers posing in front of the gazebo), I did take some photos afterwards. Starting things off is Rainbow Dash/Applejack "filly ai" action (cause any fan pairing with Rainbow Dash usually involves her with another female pony).

Next up is Pinkie Pie a la Cupcakes, one of the most infamous My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfics on the Internet (to the point where must Bronies are aware of it).

WARNING: This fanfic is very dark and very gory (although depending on how you read it, the mood could vary). READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Finally, while it wasn't part of the photo shoot, it's still worth mentioning. Here's Rainbow Dash as Commander Hurricane from the show's Xmas episode, Hearth's Warming Eve.

Now, if there was only someone dressed as Fluttershy as Private Pansy ("What a view. I can see future house from here.")

Rounding out the cosplay pics is Coop from BASEketball, a 1998 comedy written and directed by David Zucker (Airplane!, The Naked Gun) and starring Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park, The Book of Morman).

Since I'm still in a My Little Pony mood here, I'm wrapping this report with something that was on the MLP episode that premiered Katsucon weekend (something that a lot of Bronies have been waiting for ever since the audio for it was leaked three months earlier):
