Ichigo Mashimaro Music References

Ichigo Mashimaro Music References
02 июн 2012 07:11:55

I finally witched Ichigo Mashimaro an anime I've been meaning to watch for a while. What finally got me to watch it was seeing some music references (especially Aphex Twin related) in the promotional art. Witch I will now point out and explain.

These first few are from the anime.

The first is that Anna is from Cornwall, England. That is a pretty specific place especially considering that Aphex Twin is also from Cornwall.

And later in the series Chika catches a pair of goldfish at a festival witch they name Richard and James. A reference to Aphex Twin's real name Richard David James.

The only other specific music reference found in the anime was during their visit to Anna's house we were shown her family's music collection filled with real albums.

Smooth Noodle Maps by DEVO on the left and My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts by Brian Eno and David Byrne on the right.

Rio by Duran Duran at the top left (I don't know the rest)

I've only seen the anime so I cant tell you how mutch the manga has. But here are some I found in the promotional artwork (some may be from the manga)

More Aphex Twin references

A reference to his EPs Analogue Bubblebath Vol I and 2 (released as AFX)

an Aphex Twin (AFX) logo on Nobue's shirt.

Aphex Twin logos on the bag.

54 Cymru Beats is a song from his album Drukqs.

AFX sandals!

And then there's this comic of them discussing Aphex Twin's music and featuring Richard himself! Translated version here (read it left to right)

This comic is actually funnier if you know about him. He is infamous for giving people random unused songs when commissioned to make a song (or remix) and yes He owns a tank.

Miscellaneous music references

Quench is an album by The Beautiful South (released in 1998) and Back on a Roll is a Super Furry Animals song.

Gorillaz

Super Furry Animals

Play by Moby

Squarepusher

Creep by Radiohead on her skirt and I'm pretty sure her shirt says Fatboy Slim.

There are also two more I found but these are a bit questionable.

Gettin' Jiggy wit It?

Let's Get Retarded?

Why?

And finally there is this page of "background music"

Interestingly I regularly listen to about two thirds of this list...

I wonder how many people who saw this anime (or manga) noticed these references?
