Totooria "Totori" Helmold is one of only four alchemists in the entire kingdom. She is the main protagonist of Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland, and a major supporting character in Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland.

Totori is first introduced in Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland as a young, somewhat clumsy and naive aspiring alchemist. She means well, and is very sweet and caring. When she begins her life of adventuring, Totori is timid, shy, and tires easily. She depends on the support of others, but eventually grows to be a strong and dependable adventurer, making many friends along the way and spreading her name throughout Arland.

She grew up in the small fishing village of Alanya with her childhood friend Gino, and is the daughter of a world famous adventurer Gisela. Her mother's mysterious disappearance prompted Totori to begin adventuring, and to gather clues of her mother's whereabouts.

She recieved her alchemy lessons from the famous alchemist Rorona, and was Rorona's first student. She makes a lot of mistakes when she first begins practicing alchemy (and causes many explosions), but eventually becomes a very distingused alchemist, even becoming good enough to teach others after years of practice. She uses the assistance of Chim in battle and in alchemy.
