It's been a pretty messy three months due to both delays and defects, but at long last, the final figure of the summer has arrived at my house.
In February, Good Smile Company took pre-orders for the 2012 Snow Miku design, which featured her in a jacket and came with a stage and a Miku ice sculpture. With my luck in finding the 2010 figure at Katsucon 2011, I went ahead and reserved my figure as well. Unfortunately, with the figure came a long period of concern about this item.
For starters, the figure was supposed to come out in June 2012 (with my payment for the figure being deducted that month). However, there was a delay in the release. Initially, the delay was supposed to be for a couple of weeks (which is understandable, to ensure that all the figures that are ordered are produced). However, when June came and went, and I heard nothing about the figure being sent, I looked around online and learned that there were some problems in the production of the figure, resulting in it being delayed indefinitely. Some people began to cancel their orders as a result of this news. However, I decided to hold on and wait until the figure received a new release date than to cancel my order.
Eventually, the 2012 Snow Miku figure finally started to go out to customers earlier this month. However, those who some of the early shipments have begun to post complaints about some of the defects that were appearing in the figures. Among the defects:
1. Broken joint pieces;
2. Paint errors;
3. A missing bow that is part of Miku's coat.
Because of these concerns, I pretty much considered cancelling my order, as it was beginning to feel like it was too much a a hassle and not worth it. However, it was probably too late to do so, especially with me receiving word about the package being ready for shipping.
The figure finally arrived in the mail on Tuesday, with me checking the figure to see if it had any problems or defects. Thankfully, as you can see in the following picture, my Snow Miku 2012 figure was able to avoid the defects that other figures had.
Also, given how the figure comes with a stage that lights up, I definitely utilized that to display not just the 2012 Snow Miku figure, but also the ice sculpture Miku that came with it and the 2010 Snow Miku figure.
When it comes to ordering from Good Smile Company directly again, that is a "wait and see" thing (it depends on whether they release another online exclusive figure that interest me or not). However, rest assured that despite the concerns that I had, I'm not giving up on Nendoroids (with one already pre-ordered and another one on my wish list).
