Armor Girls Project Mio Sakamoto Review

Armor Girls Project Mio Sakamoto Review

We all remember the last time I got a Strike Witches action figure. So I've been scared of getting more of the Figmas, but I was curious when Bandai announced they were making Strike Witches figures. Would they be good? Would the be bad like most of Bandai's female figures? I decided to take a risk and get Sakamoto, this is what I think of her.

Overall the quality is good but not great. The main issue is perhaps the paint its mostly clean but a good amount of it is unpainted and looks a bit rough (particularly her hair)

Her articulation is good almost identical to that of a Figma with one small improvement the wrist joints (which are similar to regular Figma joints) which give a better range of movement for holding weapons then Figma wrist joints. However not everything is an improvement, she is designed to come apart a the waist to help swapping her legs with the striker units but she comes apart way too easily. (especially when tying to pose her with her striker units)

Her accessories are perhaps the highlight. She includes the usual selection of alternate hands and faces as well as alternate animal ear and tail parts. Her striker units include specific alternate legs to be used with them however mine included two left legs! (thankfully it's not noticeable when set up) The weapons she includes are a machine gun and two swords one full sized and one specifically designed to fit into the sheath! Both weapons have a cloth strap witch is much better then the plasticy thing the Figma came with. She also includes a tamashii stage with three sections, they are not separable like older ones.

However I should mention that I did notice a small paint rub from her gun on her arm (but it was a normal paint rub compared to the Figma) so I'm not sure what to think. I guess I should just avoid Strike Witches action figures!

But it seems with each new figure the prototype Looks slightly better then the last. I think if Bandai can improve on the quality control this could be a really nice figure series, but as it is now I can only recommend them if you need to have a poseable figure of a character. (otherwise I'd say go Alter's version)
