Chiaki's Opinion yer yer

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai

"We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day."

It's just around 11pm when I'm typing this up and comes after I "marathon"ed all eleven episodes of Ano Hana in one sitting. Mind you this is during my exam period so I'm feeling pretty guilty. But I just couldn't resist watching what I heard was some quality anime. Because I'm sort of a sucker for some emotional anime and cry pretty easily..(well not too easily), I was keen to give this one a shot.

There's not much to say without giving spoilers however I assume anyone who is reading this would have seen it right? But to be safe I'm just going to say how I felt and just rant on about other aspects of the anime to give some meat to the blog post. Having seen some amazingly emotional anime from the likes of Kanon and Clannad, the benchmark had been set pretty high for me. It's not to say that I did not cry but it wasn't enough for me to be memorable in a significant way. So compared to Kanon, the sad bits aren't as teary but it's not really about making people cry haha.

But I must note that not everyone searches for emotional anime like me, probably watching it for... fun? The "story telling" was well done in my opinion and to be able to pull it off in 11 episodes is also a plus. That been said, it's also probably not a very original idea. I'm sure I've seen stories like this before where a person dies and his/her spirit stays behind wanting something to be done before they can rest peacefully.

I found it quite humorous that they used as close a reference to well known names but changing the first word to avoid copyright (well according to the subs I had). Things like Wcdonalds and Nokemon were a good laugh throughout the story.

The characters are pretty believable, however I found myself getting increasingly annoyed at all the tension between the every character. I must say I especially liked "Anaru" whom I initially did not care much about when just looking at wallpapers and art. But after watching the anime and finding out about the characters some more Anaru was a really winner haha.

I'd love to play Nokemon with her. Link cables maybe? hoho I'm too much.

To by honest the saddest part of the anime was when "Tsuruko" cut her hair.. If I were to pick out of the child version of the girls, Tsukuro would win but I preferred her long hair in teenage form.

No interest in Menma.

And not much to say about the male characters.

Good grief I have really just gone nowhere with my discussion but raised pointless issues within this anime. Nonetheless I shall recommend that it be put to your plan to watch if you have not already done so. It's a strong 9/10 in my books, something that was entertaining despite my disappointment.

Being the music loving musician I am I'd like you share two very beautiful covers of the song we all hear playing in the background of some emotional scenes. Yep it's Secret base.

I was planning on learning it on either the guitar or piano. I am more skilled in piano so learning it on that would be easier. If you listen to them both would you tell me which you like better?

Well it looks like it's around 11:58pm when I finish putting this blog of random thoughts together. I have an extension maths exam tomorrow so I really need to get some rest... let alone study.

But until next time. Ja Ne... haha
